NDLEA Arrests 30 Drug Suspects In Akwa Ibom


National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Eket,  Akwa Ibom state said that it has arrested over 30 drug peddlers with over 20.9 kilogram of cannabis between March and April 2013.
NDLEA Area Commander Mrs Imaette Umoumana, made this known in an interview with newsmen, yesterday, in Eket.
She said that two physically challenged persons were also arrested for involving in the illicit drug trade and explained that the suspects were arrested with five grams of heroin and 5.9 grams of cocaine within the same period in Eket District.
The suspects, she said, were arrested through systematic and well coordinated surveillance mounted by officers and men of the command in Nsit Ubium, Etinan and Nsit Ibom.
According to her, immediately I took over, I notice that there are some bad joints in Eket district where drugs exchange hands and I swung into action with my men and arrested 30 of the drug suspects.
Umoumana said that the command had commenced intensive enlightenment campaign and counseling for drug users in the area.
She advised the public to give useful information that would help the agency in arresting drug dealers in the area and called on Local Government Chairmen, community leaders, village chiefs, and Youths leaders in the area to assist by given useful information to the Agency to enable it achieve its objectives.
