NDLEA arrests fake police superintendent with 108kg drug

The National Drugs Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a fake police superintendent with a substance suspected to be cannabis sativa in Bauchi State. The value of the 108kg substance, according to NDLEA, is N90, 000. The agency’s Co-ordinator, Mr. Parah Julius Bawa, stated this while parading the suspect in Bauchi.
He said the suspect, Augustine Odogu, 45, concealed the substance inside the boot of his vehicle with Lagos registration number MUS 937 after beating security men from Delta to Bauchi states. Bawa said the suspect hailed from Delta State, adding that the investigation revealed that he was dismissed in 1993 as police sergeant.
The suspect, who claimed that he was studying Criminology in one of the nation’s universities, however, regretted his involvement in the drug trafficking business. Claiming that his arrest would serve as deterrent to others, the suspect pleaded for mercy and commended the NDLEA for its efforts in tackling illicit drug business.
The NDLEA boss, however, said the agency had seized 194.232kgs of suspected drug from 56 suspects in the first quarter of the year.
According to him, the agency arrested one Mohammed Mai Anguwa, 41, with 9kgs of cannabis sativa at Dako village in Misau Local Government Area of the state. It also arrested one Turaki Mustapha, who is a dealer in the substance for years, in Misau.
The NDLEA coordinator said: “The agency will remain resolute in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking considering its implication to human health.” He warned drug traffickers to shun the illicit business, stressing that the agency would not relent in its effort to arrest and prosecute perpetrators of the criminal activity. The agency boss urged stakeholders to support NDLEA to ensure drug-free society.
