Apo 8: Army, DSS, Lied, Victims Were Not Boko Haram Members - NHRC
The Nigerian Army, the Directorate of State Security and the
Attorney General have been indicted by the The Nigerian Human Rights
(NHRC) Commission in Abuja for the killing of 8 civilians last year
September.

The
security service had claimed that the dead were part of the terror sect
Boko Haram, but in an 83-page report by the commission the NHRC has
said the army had no credible evidence murder the 8 youngsters in Apo.
The Security force had said that in the uncompleted building about 100 Boko Haram fighters led by one Suleiman was using the place as a base for planning future attack and that they had hidden their weapons at a nearby cemetry.
The operation lasted about 30 minutes during which 7 souls were killed with one later kicking the bucket at the hospital, 4 were charged and later detained and later when released where told never to come back to Abuja ever again.
NHRC discredited the claims that the civilians were Boko Haram fighters saying: There is “no credible evidence” to reach such a conclusion and for that reason, the victims remain in the face of the law, “protected civilians” under the Geneva Convention act that governs the rule of law.
They revealed that the security forces where trigger happy and there excuse of self defence was not right.
The told the Army to pay the deceased family N10 million Naira each and N5 million to the injured.
The NHRC also said the Army has no right to banish anyone to another state and that the army has two months to review and harmonise rules of engagement.
