OAU Students Pray On Highway, Block University Campus

The students of Obafemi Awolowo University keep protesting against increased tuition fees, Ile-Ife, on Monday.OAU Students Pray On Highway, Block University Campus

The drastic increase of school fees from N37,150 and N42,150 to N 82,400, N92,700 and N95,700, depending on faculties had forced the students out into the streets.

They paralyzed university activities by blocking major buildings and the main entrance gate that leads to the university campus.


The Muslim students even started praying on the highway as protest lasted for hours and they just could not leave the place.

Earlier the OAU students have held a presidential convoy hostage in Ile-Ife, Osun State on May 22, 2014, Thursday.

They joined their counterparts all over the country:

    The students of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Ogun State started a riot against the university management's decision to suspend from exams those who did not pay the tuition fees.
    LASU students marched to Governor Fashola’s office, forwarded an appeal to him and even started cooking and dancing in front of the Government House in Alausa, Ikeja. Later they blocked various areas in Lagos, including Ikeja Airport road.
    University of Lagos (UNILAG) has been shut, angered students blocked entrances protesting against tuition fee hike.
