Jalo’s election as the new executive on June 13 sparked controversies and criticism among Nigerians, Premium Times reports. Special attention to the issue was attracted by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), that stated on its official page that despite APC’s claim that Jalo is 43, he is 10 year older.

The ruling party took to Facebook with the statement entitled "PDP Expresses Shock Over APC Defence On Youth Leader’s Age Seeks End To Culture Of Lying" and signed by the party National Publicity Secretary Olisa Metuh.

See the extract below:

"It is public knowledge that Ibrahim Dasuki Jalo contested the Gombe/Kwame/Funakaye Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representative in 2011 during which he declared his age to be 49 years. The records are there and they speak for themselves.

"If Ibrahim Dasuki Jalo was 49 years in 2011, it naturally follows that he is 52 at present for which he should be grateful to God. It is therefore clear that the statement by the APC declaring him to be 43 years is false."

The PDP stressed that the were shocked not with the actual age of the new leader, but with the fact of lie delivered by the APC. Thus they blamed their opponents for lack of integrity advising them to imbibe the culture of honesty in the party and adding that Nigerians deserve truth.
