Insecurity: FCT Minister Orders Abuja Hotels to Submit Guest List to Security Agencies

Senator Bala Mlohammed Embarks on operation ‘know your neighbour campaign’ Senator Iroegbu In his determination to secure  lives and property in Abuja, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator Bala Mohammed, has directed all hotels to forward a list of their guests to the FCT Directorate of State Security Services (SSS) and the FCT Police Command on a daily basis. Mohammed announced this directive in a statement signed yesterday by his Special Assistant (Media), Mr. Nosike Ogbuenyi. According to him, the hotels are equally required to install their individual security cameras within their vicinity and ensure thorough check of all vehicles entering the hotel and within their surroundings. I had publicly expressed reservations about the National Conference that has just been inaugurated by President Goodluck Jonathan, especially regarding its timing and whether the government has the capacity to manage the conference as well as the impending general election. The conference ought to have been convoked a long time ago so as to give enough time for the agreed outcomes of its deliberations to have the force of law, especially as some may require the arduous process of amending our constitution. It is also a conference that may inflame passions at a time of growing tensions in the country over the 2015 general election, governance and generalised insecurity in the land.
