Fire Destroys Access Bank, Factory, Others In Lagos

Several houses and companies were over the weekend engulfed in fire in different areas of Lagos.

According to the Director, Lagos State Fire Service, Razaq Fadipe, his agency was busy all through the weekend as they  responded to no fewer than 10 fire cases between Saturday and Sunday.

He said they put out seven fires on Saturday and four on Sunday.

At about 10.35am on Sunday, there was fire outbreak at an apartment building in Ozolua Staff Quarters, the University of Lagos UNILAG which was caused by an electricity surge.

A branch of Access Bank at Ojo Alaba was razed by fire on Sunday. Firemen were said to have spent over four hours at the scene.

“Around 12.05, we received a distress call that there was a fire outbreak at Access Bank. We were not quickly alerted so the whole building was smoke-clogged. The fire started from the ICT department," Fadipe said.

Also, one Bella Furniture Factory on Ifosi Road, Iyana-Ejigbo in the Ejigbo Local Council Development Area was not spared the disaster as fire also gutted its building. Six shops were affected by the fire while five were not.

Fadipe said it took the firemen several hours to put out the fire and they are still investigating the cause.

He added that there were no casualties in all the fire cases.
