The House of Representatives yesterday disclosed that about N100bn belonging to deceased banks’ customers is presently trapped in dormant accounts across the country. According to the lawmakers, while the banks continue to trade with this money, beneficiaries of the deceased persons’ estates are living in penury, with many unable to feed. The House therefore mandated its Committee on Justice and Judiciary to liaise with the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Aloma Mukhtar to relax the requirements for access to bank accounts of deceased persons by their next of kin and dependants. Police in Edo State are investigating how a strayed cow caused the death of two brothers in an accident which involved a motorcycle and a car in Benin, the state capital. The owner of the cow is being detained by the police. The accident which occurred on Saturday in Oben community’s main road, on the outskirts of the state capital, resulted in the death of two brothers, Jude and Emeka Louis. The motorcycle conveying the brothers from work collided with a Volkswagen car. Both the motorcycle and the car were trying to avoid hitting the cow when they collided.
